4 Well put oh wise one. Why are Republicans (except for Thompson who apparently had all the enthusiasm for office of a tranquilized Dick Chenney, and Paul who's isolationism is too much) afraid of the conservative message? (And more importantly policy) The media feigns McCain love, and has sold him to alot of folks. It's largely a ruse and the affair will sour if he is nominated.

9 You know, I don't like McCain's business stance, I don't like a whole lot of other things about him, but if the choice is between him and Hillary, or him and the Second-coming-of-the-empty-suit (i.e. Obama), then my vote's for McCain, and to hell with his conservative "impurity". I'd rather have the impurity in the White House than the Hills or the Empty Suit.

11 Yeah, and Hils'll f-up health care, screw up both Iraq and Afghanistan, and unless she listens to Bill, bork the economy through Kyoto and all sorts of other Leftisms her party'll want to implement by dint of owning both Congress and the house. Not to mention that if the US goes abroad again, we won't go in force like we did for Iraq I or this latest incarnation. We'll go like we did in Somalia: In force at first, then petered out at the end. And we won't finish what we start. I really don't want to relive the Clintonian version of Use-of-Force again. Look, Cas, I know what you're sayin', but I really don't think letting things go to pot is the answer. History shows that countries that allow their leadership to lead them to ruin tend not to recover afterwards. Rock bottom is not something to rebound off of.

This is the stakes: whether we stay in tact as a people or a new people is "elected" by Washington through social engineering immigration policies. That's why it's probably even preferable a conservative unifying figure like Hillary or Obama is elected and shot down on immigration than if McCain comes into power. His amnesty plan would be a huge disaster, and his lies in defending it only show what a bad dishonest president he would be.

With Edwards out, its a lot easier now for Al Gore to make his endorsement. And he hates Hillary. Expect an announcement soon that will be bigger than the Kennedy coup.

3 I had a summer of hell, where I had to fly back and forth to Oakland every week on SWA. It sucked. I was pretty casual, since I was travelling for the week, but the daytrippers on business would be appropriately dressed for their task, blue suit & power tie. One morning, sitting in the facing seats, which are best if you wish to harange your seatmates in hell, Mr. La Jolla sat across from me, and began to sweet talk the lovely next to me. I knew he was from La Jolla, because he had to tell us all several times. During his foray at the young lovely, I chanced to glance down, and see a cockroach crossing the aisle from a snoring black fellow's direction, no doubt a denizen of the fair city to which we were bound, both of them. The roach entered our seating area, only observed by me, and I very loudly STOMPED him. All eyes were afixed when I lifted the bottom of my shoe to the others and observed, "Cockroach, headed home." It shut them up. These are the moments that warm my heart. I usually hand my drink tickets to the portly stew at the door, and tell her to keep them coming. Often, I'm served before liftoff. Heh, if you're going to be in hell, may as well be the drunkest one there.

4 Why haven't you been on any of my flights? The movies usually aren't that good and you'd be endlessly entertaining. I guess the two most entertaining flights so far were with SDSU's baseball team and once in one of those giant military cargo planes, sitting in jump seats and wearing ear plugs while headed to Guam from Hawaii.

1 Agreed, I do love the Cinnabon. The heart of the bon, after the mantle, where the dough sugar and Cinnamon become expedientially wrapped ever closer (like compound interest) , is my favorite part. I'm not sure if I wanna know or care what a Cinnabon is - sounds like something that subtracts points from the manhood scale for just touching - but as far as blogging from an iPhone goes: Of course! I've hit up your blog before from an old grayscale Blackberry, and can do it from my current color one. If a Blackberry with it's horrid excuse for a browser can do it, an iPhone with a real version of Safari can too. Now, if only an iPhone could do 1. Exchange sync, and 2. 3G instead of just EDGE, I'd say we have a winner. Till then, I'm going to be forced to stick with a 'Berry.

3 Yeah, but do either of them have voice command like my Treo? Driving down the street and asking the phone to call someone, and further, having the choice of home, work or mobile makes a much safer ride. It can also surf, get emails and stores a humongous amount of names, addresses, phone numbers, emails addresses, etc. Also, the windows platform makes for an easy sync to the PC. When Blackberry or iPhone can do all that, I'll consider a switch.

5 The question of iPhone blogging is relevant to my situation right now because I'm trying to find a way to blog (and upload pics/vids) while walking across America this year (for more on that, see here). Above, ElMondoHummus writes about the Blackberry, and that's actually something my brother David has recommended to me for the walk. I think I might just put the question to my readers. As for Cinnabon and manliness, well... if you eat Cinnabons day in and day out, they'll shrink your balls and enlarge your tits like nobody's business, but I trust that most of the men who comment on Annika's Journal keep their man-boobs in check by practicing moderation. Meanwhile, Annika, keep eating those Cinnabons, and pretty soon your own balls will have shrunk to the point where you can just scrape them off with a razor-- no pain. 11 Kevin: I love the heck outta my Blackberry. Stable, small, reliable, a real keyboard instead of a numbers pad... BUT, much of that love comes from the fact that I work at a place with a Microsoft Exchange messaging system, and that is what the 'Berry is designed to work with. My honest opinion: If you don't have an enterprise-class messaging setup to interface with, the Blackberry platform has no advantages. And the older 'Berries, like my 8700c, are not good web platforms at all, so it actually has one major disadvantage. (Disclaimer: I am a bit behind the times. I don't know how good the 8800's, Pearls, and any other model succeeding the 8700's are) Take a look at them and see if you like them anyway. But really, from having had to support PDA's at my job (not only 'Berries, but Treos, WinMobiles, and the like), most folks without Exchange, Lotus Notes, or Novell Groupwise are actually happier with a Palm or WinMobile. They're less stable and need more hard resets, but they're also not designed around Exchange/Notes/Groupwise like the 'Berries are. That help?

Tom Petty's Los Angeles

The L.A. Weekly has a cover story on Tom Petty's Los Angeles, complete with a map of several important Pettyania locations. Interesting, but I always complained that Petty, who moved here from Florida in 1974, was somewhat mistaken about the geography of his adoptive home. Exhibit A is the following line from the hit "Free Fallin':"

It's a long day living in Reseda,
There's a freeway runnin through the yard.

Um no, that's inaccurate. There's no freeway in Reseda. Check Google maps; the closest freeway is US 101, which goes through Tarzana, but not Reseda.

Next I'll take on geographical inaccuracies in the screenplay for The Karate Kid.

9 Despite the fact that computer simulations indicated the Chargers had a 90% chance of losing to the Patriots (and some say it was 99.999%), I had hope... I don't think B.O. can get elected this time around and I simply can't conceive of a world where H.C. is leader of our nation. That's all I feel certain about at this point. 25 I have friends down by the 94. I've heard about how it is down there--mostly via Roger Hedgecock's program. The majority of Mexican people in my neighborhood are already established in homes--probably second and third generation--but there are more day laborers every year. The ones in homes are fine neighbors. Our worst neighbors are the 20-something white boys whose dad bought them a house and then left the scene. It's monster truck heaven and an 18-hour auto shop/bar across the street. But that Jesus Nava approached my daughter while she was out running several months ago--just a few hours before the police used the heat-seeking helicopter to get him for molesting a 13-year-old boy who, I heard, was also part of the established Mexican community and had already been acquainted with Nava. He's in jail but who's next?

27 Back in the late 70s when Tom was trying to bed my mother he had us over for supper. I was 15 back then and was in awe that we were going to be eating at a famous person's house. We were all sitting there and this tall lanky guy named Lazlo brings out a big metal bowl filled with creamed corn. He put it in the middle of the table and put wooden spoons in front of my mother and I as well as the older couple that were there eating with us. We looked at each other weirdly and started eating it. It tasted nothing like creamed corn, but we didn't want to piss him off, so we kept eating it. I took little bites though. Afterwards, when Tom, my mom and the older couple went to "play" upstairs, I had the worst gas I ever had in my life! I thought for sure Lazlo would leave the couch next to me but he stayed right there.

30 Not to pick a fight with you here, Annika, but the 101 does clip part of Reseda. In fact what would be considered "downtown" Reseda is only about 4 blocks away from the 101... I think Petty's larger inaccuracy is the claim of a "freeway running through the yard"...the Reseda Blvd. exit off the 101 does not take you into a residential neighborhood for several blocks. The "residential" section I believe is actually at least a mile north of the 101... I haven't traveled that stretch of the 101 for at least 4 months, so I'll give you a complete report on my next foray into the valley...

So, here's the path you need to take - trial lawyers die young, because billable hours are everything. Find a specialty where you can bill for results and for your knowledge and don't have to rely on billable hours in order to achieve maximum compensation. Environmental is popular now, and looks good for the duration, but there are even subspecialties, like water, air, fuel, etc. Bankruptcy is cyclical, but really rewarding in this environment. Employment law (best from management side) is another good one. Or, become a house counsel and get stock options. You get the idea. Remember, you find time to do what you want to do. 20 Actually, I am both a Bruin and a Trojan. But, after Red Sanders died, the Bruins never had a program. The list of coaches can make you barf. The worst of course were Pepper Rodgers and Terry Donahue. Then I was on the Coliseum Commission for almost eight years and could never get the Chancellor to talk aobut returning to play there, he was so pissed at being dissed by the Commission before I was appointed. So, I root for both, except when they play each other, and then it is USC all the way.

Okay so I'm resurfacing because I just can't keep silent on what happened tonight.

Keep in mind that I don't even want Obama to win, but I hate Hillary. I didn't realize that I hated her until tonight. Before I just disliked her and didn't want her to be president. Now I want to stick a knitting needle in her eye.

(If I were to stick a knitting needle in her eye, here's what I think it would sound like: "pffft..." "AAAAAHHHH!!! AAAAAHHHH!!! AAAAAHHHH!!! AAAAAHHHH!!! AAAAAHHHH!!!" etc.)

Anyways. Tell me this. NobodyÂ—but nobodyÂ—predicted anything less than a five point Obama victory as late as yesterday. I'm talkin' Zogby, Rassmussen, CNN, CBS, etc. I know pre-election polls are often wrong, but the exit polling today also predicted a solid Obama victory.

Add to that, Clinton herself acted like a defeated woman for the past few days. She knew she was going to lose New Hampshire, because she was going to lose! Her crocodile tears, her meltdown at Saturday's debate, and Bill's tirade against the vast media conspiracy, all show a campaign that saw the writing on the wall.

Plus, I don't know anybody that thought Clinton's behavior since Iowa has helped her in any way. Everybody I talked to thought she was hurting herself badly every time she opened her mouth.

And all the coverage of the campaigning in NH since Thursday was all about how Clinton wasn't drawing crowds and Obama rallies were huge and energized.

All that stuff tells me that she cheated. Come on, it's the fucking CLINTONS, for pete's sake. They fucking cheated and you know it. These people don't care how they win; lying, cheating and stealing mean nothing to them. They're as Macchiavelian as anyone in modern politics. What did Bill say when Ken Starr had him by the balls? We'll just have to win then.

The Clinton machine was in a desperate spot today. They knew they had to win, but they also knew they couldn't turn things around that quickly. Electorates don't change their minds that fast. The only way they could do it was to cheat. But we'll sooner find out how Hillary made all that money in cattle futures than find out how she cheated on this election. I guarantee nobody will look into it. The media loves a horse race and they got one now.

Historians will write about how President Hillary saved herself with the spectacular New Hampshire comeback. But I'm telling you, this was the 2008 version of Daley delivering Chicago or Joe Kennedy buying West Virginia. Its the only possible explanation and it sucks.

Not that I want Obama to win. I admire him greatly, sure, but I disagree with him on almost every issue. I just want him to win the nomination. I used to think he couldn't win it, but now I think he can. I've never seen a guy generate that much passion and excitement as a politician. I want him to win because it will kill the baby boomer sixties counter-culture stranglehold on the Democratic party, hopefully for good. Then I want to see the Republicans nominate a guy who can beat him. Against Obama, at least it would be a fair fight.
