I can see it now. 60% of the movies next year will be about Ridin', Ropin', and Redecoratin'.

"Is EVERYONE in Hollyood gay?" No, just politically correct...

"I can see it now. 60% of the movies next year will be about Ridin', Ropin', and Redecoratin'." And that's just in the BEDROOM scenes...

Look, folks, not every gay-themed film (there have been dozens in recent years) automatically wins awards... Brokeback Mountain is nominated because it's a superb film. If Hollywood is so left-wing, explain the triumph two years ago of the "Return of the King", a film beloved by social conservatives.

lowest grossing films nominated at one time EVER....

Hugo, Do you really want to get into a debate as to whether Hollywood overwhelmingly promotes liberal social values? PLEASE. Even Hollywood admits its bias. Unashamedly so. You're fighting a very losing battle on this one. That's like arguing the media isn't overwhelmingly liberal. Reality check, buddy. p.s. And mentioning the occassional bones thrown to social conservatives such as "Return of the King," or "Narnia" doesn't challenge the facts of the issue. For every Narnia, there are 50 "Syriana"s or "Munich"s....or "Broke Back Mountain"s.

I really dont mind if they make some liberal social issues movie, but I do mind if it becomes obviously preachy. SOme of these unsubtle movies try to make the average american fell ashamed to be themselves. I always had a problem with paying to be insulted in a movie.

I'm not sure I'd accept Blu's numbers. but I would agree that the Gladiators and L0TR's are the exceptions that prove the rule. When Hollywood makes a liberal movie the message is always overt. when a movie like LOTR comes out, any conservative message depends on the viewer and whether he or she looks hard enough. I have no doubt Brokeback is a good movie, and I do plan to see it. I love Ang Lee. But I know Hollywood and the Academy voters are licking their chops at the chance to "stick it" to the Red States.

Fine, Annie, I'll admit I was using hyperbole to make a point. I'm willing to reduce the ratio from 50:1 to 20:1. Frankly, I'm not overly concerned about Hollywood's agenda. It's pretty transparent, and I think it's obvious to most people. I was more put off by Hugo's refusal to acknowledge the obvious.

Syriana reminds me of another Clooney movie that bashed Bush's dad for the 1991 Gulf War: Three Kings (1999). The movie bashed Bush Sr. for not helping the Shia and Kurds topple Saddam and get their freedom when he had encouraged their uprising. Watching Three Kings today makes you wonder why Clooney is against THIS war. You'd think he would be against selling out the Iraqis again....

Ho hum, nothing new here. Where's the SOTU blogging? Best line bar none, "Hindsight isn't wisdom, and second-guessing isn't a strategy." BOOM! Sounds like it came out of the Ghettysburgh Address.

Did anyone actually *get* Syriana? Look, I'm smart, and I "get" politics (I was vice president of the college republicans, for pete's sake!) -- but this movie made absolutely no sense to me, whatsoever. I think the point is that the U.S. government is bad because there are some good Iraqis, especially if they have British accents? But I couldn't say for sure. No exaggeration: one of the worst movies I have ever seen. TBinSTL: For great justice.

Sheesh, no DWTS blogging either. Jerry looked mucho bettero. The part with his daughter was priceless, and she's right. She IS a better dancer.

>Watching Three Kings today makes you wonder why Clooney is against THIS war. You'd think he would be against selling out the Iraqis again.... Syriana was not about Iraq... Was it difficult to follow? I've seen it once and understood it, though I was forewarned there were 4 subplots. Indeed, it supports the Bush admonishment that we are "addicted to Middle East oil."
